Applications of the VB 15/5000-LM

Design and operation

The VB 15/5000-LM houses a three-phase asynchronous motor with 4 poles. Insulation class F, tropicalised winding, protection IP66 to EN 60529 and impact resistance IK08 to EN 50102. Extreme operating temperatures from −17 to +40 °C, noise level at or below 70 dB(A) measured in free air, electrical construction to EN 60034-1.

Designing the weights is down to you
This is what sets the VB series apart, and it changes the nature of the purchase. The eccentric weights must be made and fitted by the builder of the vibrating machine, depending on the electrical and mechanical characteristics of the vibrator. The manual also states that these vibrators have no guard against the rotating weights : it is for the machine designer to provide it, along with protection should the vibrator come loose. Risk assessment rests with the machine manufacturer.

Mounting is through the double conical flange, with flanges or inserts of matching taper, grade 8.8 bolts (DIN 931-933), 8.8 nuts (DIN 934) and 300 HV flat washers (DIN 125/A), tightened with a torque wrench. Tightness must be rechecked after a short period of operation : the manual notes that most failures come from a mounting error or insufficient tightening. Never weld once the motor is fitted.

On the electrical side, current density must not exceed 4 A/mm², one conductor is reserved for earthing on the tropicalised screw marked with the earth symbol, and ring terminals are mandatory. PWM inverter control is permitted only where a correctly connected PTC thermistor 130 °C is fitted.

Special conditions in zones 21 and 22
Safety devices must work independently of the measuring and control systems, comply with standard EN 50495, and resetting them must be manual only. The entries must take certified cable glands or compatible blanking elements. Cables and accessories must withstand at least 105 °C at +40 °C ambient, 120 °C at +55 °C. Never open the terminal box where an explosive atmosphere is present, and clean only with a damp cloth — risk of electrostatic charge.
