GOOD VIBRATION

Electromagnetic vibrator: how it works and when to use it

An electromagnetic vibrator generates vibrations through an alternating magnetic field, with no rotating parts at all. This is what fundamentally sets it apart from a classic unbalance vibrating motor. But when should you choose an electromagnetic vibrator, and how do you set it up correctly? Here are the answers to our customers’ most frequent questions.

How does an electromagnetic vibrator work?

An alternating current (50 or 60 Hz) activates an electromagnet that attracts then releases an armature, connected to the vibrating plate by an elastic spring. The result: a linear, back-and-forth vibration at a frequency matching the mains supply.

Amplitude is continuously adjustable via an electronic controller, giving a precise and adjustable material flow.

What are the advantages over a rotary vibrating motor?

No rotating parts

No bearing wear, minimal maintenance

Precise adjustment

Amplitude adjustable from 0 to 100%

Quiet operation

Lower noise levels

Instant start/stop

No inertia or response delay

What applications is it used for?

  • Precise dosing on weighing and packaging lines
  • Transporting small parts (electronics, automotive)
  • Feeding installations with constant, adjustable flow
  • Pharmaceutical applications requiring hygiene and precision

When NOT to choose one?

For heavy-duty applications requiring strong centrifugal force (concrete compaction, large vibrating screens, large silos), a rotary vibrating motor remains the better choice. Electromagnetic vibrators excel in light to medium applications requiring high precision.

What power output should I choose?

It depends on the weight of the material, the transport distance, and the desired flow rate. Our Tuxel range covers a wide power range. Our technicians help you size the right unit for your process.

Is an ATEX-certified version available?

Yes, ATEX-certified versions are available for environments with explosion risk. Contact us to check availability for your specific ATEX zone.
