GOOD VIBRATION

M3-E vibrator motor : the compact unit certified for gas and dust

The M3-E series is the increased safety version of the M3 series. Same frame, same dimensions, same multi-hole base — but a certification covering both gas and dust atmospheres.

Four references in 2 poles, from 0.635 to 2.94 kN, from 4.3 to 6.3 kg. It is the only compact format in the Italvibras catalogue usable in zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.

M3 ou M3-E : ce que change la increased safety

The two series share the frame, the bearing flange, the shaft, the multi-hole base and the position of the terminal box. The difference lies in the protection method, and it has concrete consequences for installation.

What increased safety implies

The « e » method does not seek to contain an explosion, as a flameproof enclosure does. It seeks to prevent an ignition source from arising : no arc, no spark, no hot spot. The whole design therefore aims to eliminate clearances, heating and imperfect contacts — and that shifts part of the responsibility to the installer.

The silicone in the terminal box is not optional

On the M3-E series, the catalogue is explicit : after connection, the user must fill the terminal box with a suitable silicone. It is that filling which removes the risk of tracking between conductors. A machine delivered compliant but connected without this step is no longer compliant.

The tE time, and why it appears on the data sheet

The catalogue declares a tE time of 20 seconds, within the meaning of standard IEC/EN 60079-7. It is the time during which the motor, with the rotor locked, can rise in temperature without exceeding its permissible limit. That value is used to set the overload protection : the device must trip before the end of that period. It is not a decorative figure, it is a setting parameter.

The inverter requires the thermistor

Where the M3 series accepts an inverter without condition, the M3-E allows it only in the presence of a PTC thermistor, from 20 Hz to base frequency and at constant torque. The 130 °C thermistor is available on request : if variable-frequency control is envisaged, it must be ordered with the vibrator.

A supply to check

The M3-E does not accept the wide 24-690 V range of the M3 series. It is ordered in 127/220 V 50 Hz, 200/346 V 50 Hz or 210/363 V 60 Hz, three-phase only — there is no single-phase version. That is the first point to check before choosing this series.

Choosing the reference

The four references share power, current and tE time : only the static moment, the force and the length change, from 197 to 235 mm. The choice is therefore made on force alone. Note, as on the M3 series : the M3/305E-S02 délivre moins en 60 Hz qu'en 50 Hz (2.87 against 2.94 kN), so that on a 60 Hz supply it is equivalent to the M3/205E.

If your installation involves dust only, the M3 series is enough and leaves you more choice — 6 references, two polarities, a more flexible supply and single-phase. The M3-E is justified only if gas enters the zone classification.
