The VU 103000/8-S08 is a mechanical exciter, size 360, with linear motion. Depending on the weights fitted, it delivers 646 to 635 kN. It is driven by a motor rated at 45 kW, or 90 kW for two exciters.

The working moment is twice the static moment. Fitting more weights increases the moment but lowers the maximum permissible speed.
The difference is fundamental. A conventional vibrator motor contains its own electric motor and is wired directly. A mechanical exciter does not : it is a set of eccentric weights mounted on bearings, driven by an external motor that you select and size yourself. That is why the catalogue quotes a rating in kW rather than a voltage or a current.
This approach makes sense on medium and large machines : separating the vibrating part from the driving part reduces the loads on the motor and extends the service life of the whole assembly. The catalogue also stresses the care taken over noise reduction and over the durability of bearings and gears. The exciter is built around an induction motor driven from outside.
The force is not adjusted by phasing weights as on a vibrator motor, but by choosing the additional weights. The table above gives the two extreme configurations ; several intermediate values are available between them.
